Alpha Sigma Alpha Symbols and Insignia
The Coat-of-Arms
Also called the Crest, this is a shield quartered in crimson and white depicting a phoenix rising from radiant flames and is surmounted by a gold crown. A decorative ribbon below the shield states the open motto in Greek lettering. This translates to "aspire, seek, attain."
The Star, Crown, Palm Tree, and Phoenix
These four items are the insignia of Alpha Sigma Alpha. The star represents how all members should try to live up to the sorority's values. The crown represents leadership and alumnae recognition. The palm tree stands for strong development. Finally, the phoenix is representative of the reorganization of the sorority in 1914, also seen as a rebirth. The palm tree and the phoenix are both the symbols of Alpha Sigma Alpha and are linked to the secondary colors - Palm Green and Gold.
The Jewels
The two jewels of Alpha Sigma Alpha are the Pearl and the Ruby. The Pearl is for members before initiation while the Ruby is for initiated members. Both of these are linked to Alpha Sigma Alpha's primary colors - Crimson and Pearl White.
Mascot and Flowers
Dot the Ladybug is the beloved mascot of Alpha Sigma Alpha. She was made the official mascot in 2008. The official flowers are the Aster (the fall flower) and the Narcissus (the spring flower).
